Abstract
Abstract The results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) indicate that the scientific literacy level of Indonesian students is still in the low category, thus requiring learning innovations that are capable of improving students' scientific thinking skills. One approach considered relevant is Socioscientific Issues (SSI)-based learning, which integrates science concepts with social problems in the community environment. This study aims to analyze the condition of Indonesian students' scientific literacy, examine the implementation of Socioscientific Issues in biology learning, and evaluate its contribution to improving students' scientific literacy. This study uses a library research method with a descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were obtained through tracing scientific articles, national and international journals, as well as academic documents relevant to scientific literacy and Socioscientific Issues. The data were then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, classification, interpretation, and systematic drawing of conclusions. The research results indicate that SSI-based learning is able to create a contextual, critical, and reflective learning environment, making it effective in improving students' science literacy. The implementation of SSI in biology learning also promotes scientific argumentation skills, decision-making, and awareness of social and environmental issues more comprehensively.

Abstrak Hasil Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) menunjukkan bahwa tingkat literasi sains siswa Indonesia masih berada pada kategori rendah sehingga diperlukan inovasi pembelajaran yang mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir ilmiah peserta didik. Salah satu pendekatan yang dinilai relevan adalah pembelajaran berbasis Socioscientific Issues (SSI) yang mengintegrasikan konsep sains dengan permasalahan sosial di lingkungan masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kondisi literasi sains siswa Indonesia, mengkaji implementasi Socioscientific Issues dalam pembelajaran biologi, serta mengevaluasi kontribusinya terhadap peningkatan literasi sains peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan (library research) dengan pendekatan deskriptif-kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui penelusuran artikel ilmiah, jurnal nasional dan internasional, serta dokumen akademik yang relevan dengan literasi sains dan Socioscientific Issues. Data kemudian dianalisis melalui tahapan reduksi data, klasifikasi, interpretasi, dan penarikan kesimpulan secara sistematis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis SSI mampu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang kontekstual, kritis, dan reflektif sehingga efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi sains siswa. Implementasi SSI dalam pembelajaran biologi juga mendorong kemampuan argumentasi ilmiah, pengambilan keputusan, serta kesadaran terhadap persoalan sosial dan lingkungan secara lebih komprehensif.
